Recipes of Chinese herbs for headache caused by turbid phlegm

In traditional Chinese medicine, the causes of headache include external pathogenic factors and internal factors. Turbid phlegm is one of internal factors.

When turbid phlegm causes headache, the head feels pain and heaviness, and the person is sleepy. The chest and the stomach have the feeling of blocking and oppressing. The person has no appetite, and he feels nausea. The tongue is pale, and the coating of the tongue is white and looks like lard. The pulse is slippery like a pearl rolling on a plate, or the pulse is taut like a string and slippery.

The treatment method is to remove phlegm and restore the downward movement of stomach-Qi. The representative recipe is Ban Xia Bai Zhu Tian Ma Tang.

The recipe Ban Xia Bai Zhu Tian Ma Tang contains Ban Xia (9 g), Bai Zhu (18 g), Tian Ma (6 g), Ju Hong (6 g), Fu Ling (6 g), Gan Cao (3 g), Sheng Jiang (1 piece), and Da Zao (2, number).

In the case that phlegm and dampness block middle-Jiao, if the chest and the stomach have a very strong feeling of blocking and oppressing, Hou Po, Zhi Ke, and Sha Ren can be added to the recipe.

If the person feels something bitter in the mouth, and defecation becomes difficult, while the coating of the tongue is yellow and looks like lard, and the pulse is slippery and rapid, Bai Zhu should be removed from the recipe, and Huang Lian, Zhi Shi, and Zhu Ru can be added to the recipe. Huang Lian Wen Dan Tang can be an alternative recipe, which contains Ban Xia, Chen Pi, Fu Ling, Gan Cao, Zhi Shi, Zhu Ru, Huang Lian, Da Zao, and Sheng Jiang.

NOTE:

Middle-Jiao: It is a concept in traditional Chinese medicine. The internal organs of the body are divided into three regions, which are called three Jiao. The middle region is called middle-Jiao, which includes the spleen and the stomach.
